FX sent Matthias Clamer on location to snowy Calgary to shoot publicity images for its new series Fargo, an original adaptation of the Oscar-winning 1996 Coen Brothers movie. The shoot took place over three long, frigid days. “My crew was mummified in winter outfits,” laughs Matthias.

Matthias Clamer on making a heat wave look like autumn for a recent FX publicity shoot

Matthias Clamer recently shot key art and publicity images for the critically acclaimed FX comedy series The League, but as is often the case, the weather in Southern California did not jibe with the chilly Midwestern concept for the imagery.

“This shoot happened on a 103 Fahrenheit day on a field in the Valley, but the look of the pictures had to be October in Illinois,” Matthias explains. “During the shoot, six PA’s held umbrellas over the actors’ heads every second the camera wasn’t clicking. A water truck kept the field muddy. And the producer issued large gardening straw hats for the crew. As for the skies, I imported some from road trips I’d been on in Montana and Utah.”

The show, which will start its fifth season on the new network FXX on September 4, follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league who take every opportunity to make each other miserable. Here’s a look at Matthias’ photos…

Matthias Clamer shot the key art for the third and final season of the Comedy Central series Kroll Show, in which comedian Nick Kroll plays many different characters—male, female, old, young—a range that Matthias captured in his photograph.

“Nick’s in the shot six times,” he says. “The picture is loosely a spoof of a famous group shot of the cast of some New Jersey modern-day mafia drama.”

FX commissioned Matthias Clamer to shoot key art and publicity images for Man Seeking Woman, which the network describes as “a sweet and surreal look at the life-and-death stakes of dating.” It stars Jay Baruchel as the man in question, who soldiers through one-night stands, painful breakups, and…a blind date with a troll, which Matthias immortalized in the poster.

For the new issue of ESPN The Magazine, Matthias Clamer shot Brandon Armstrong, a basketball fan with a serious comic streak who has made a name for himself with his viral videos impersonating NBA stars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. Matthias Clamer shoots key art and publicity for season two of “Fargo”

$
0
0

Last year, FX commissioned Matthias Clamer to shoot the publicity images for the premiere of its series Fargo, based on the Coen Brothers’ Oscar-winning crime-comedy-drama 1996 film. (See those images here.) And this year, the network returned to Matthias for both the key art and publicity for the Emmy-winning show’s second season.

From the show’s official page: The all new “true crime” case in Fargo’s latest chapter takes you back to 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota. “Lou Solverson” (Patrick Wilson), a young State Police Officer recently back from Vietnam, investigates a case involving a local crime gang, a major mob syndicate and a small town beautician “Peggy Blumquist” (Kirsten Dunst) along with her husband “Ed” (Jesse Plemons), the local butcher’s assistant. Helping Lou piece things together is his father-in-law, “Sheriff Hank Larsson” (Ted Danson). The investigation will lead them to a colorful cast of characters that includes “Karl Weathers” (Nick Offerman), the town lawyer of Luverne, Minnesota. A Korean War vet, Karl is a flowery drunk blessed with the gift of gab and the eloquence of a true con artist. Three-time Emmy® winner Brad Garrett will play “Joe Bulo,” the front man for the northern expansion of a Kansas City crime syndicate. The new face of corporate crime, Joe’s bringing a Walmart mentality to small town America. His number two is “Mike Milligan” (Bokeem Woodbine). Part enforcer, part detective, Mike is always smiling – but the joke is usually on you. Bulo and his crew have their sights set on the Gerhardt crime family in Fargo, currently led by matriarch “Floyd Gerhardt” (Jean Smart). With her husband at death’s door, Floyd takes over the family business, frustrating her eldest son, “Dodd Gerhardt” (Jeffrey Donovan). An impatient hothead with a cruel streak to match his ambitions, Dodd can’t wait for both his parents to die so he can take over and expand their business from kingdom to empire. “Bear Gerhardt” (Angus Sampson) is the middle son, an intimidatingly large man who, although inarticulate, is the most decent of his clan. “Rye Gerhardt” (Kieran Culkin), the youngest of the Gerhardt clan, views himself as a big shot, but in reality he’s just a small dog with a loud bark.

Here’s a look…
